METAL PIPES

METAL PIPES FOR FABRICATION

 PIPE's are available in market into 3 main categories in terms of measurements such as follows,

NOMINAL PIPE SIZE: - The nominal pipe size is smaller up to (<12" OD) and its above sizes it is available in its actual OD size as a NPS i.e. (NPS = OD in inches). NPS are regardless of wall thickness

SCHEDULE: - This is based on wall thickness parameters. A pipe schedule is a dimensionless number and is calculated based on design formula for wall thickness, given the design pressure and allowable stress.
Examples: - 5, 5S, 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 80, 100, 120, 140, etc. are available with the most common schedule are 40 and 80. As wall thickness increases with increase in numbers also, the OD will fixed as per NPS.

WEIGHT: - Wall thickness categorized into three types based on NPS and SCH. Class A(heaviest), Class B(Havier), Class C(heavy).

W= 0.284 x (OD-t) x t.

As per application manufacturing types also considered for pipes..

1) ERW PIPES: - Electro resistant welding which is made by welding pieces of steel longitudinally

2) SEAMLESS PIPES: -A seamless pipe is a tube that does not have any welding seam. Seamless pipes are derived from solid steel that is in sheet or bar form and is formed into a solid round shape
