Generally it is based on ANSI standards i.e. Pitch Size is in inch

For e.g.        ANSI 40            12.7 mm P                (1/2" P)

                    ANSI 50            15.9 mm P                (5/8" P)

                    ANSI 80            25.4 mm P                ( 1" P)

Some Specification to kept in mind before ordering sprockets are..

1. No. Of teeth
2. Chain Pitch 
3. Outside diameter
4. Pitch circle diameter
5. Plate thickness
6. Hub diameter
7. Max. bore diameter
8. Overall length
   

Also, different types of chain sprockets are available in market but as per standards

• Type A
• Type B
• Types C/ Offset 

In other sense the multiples chainwheels also available

• Simplex chainwheel
